How to Use the Reader Section

The Reader section is a JavaScript powered "reader" interface. It is useful for creating FAQs or documentation. It uses Custom Post Types, which can easily be re-ordered and grouped into "Reader Sets."

After you have purchased, installed, & activated the Reader section, you must then enable it in your template.

Enable the Reader section

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Templates"
2. Select the Template Area that you want the Reader section to go
   • If you select the "Page Template area, by default the Reader section will be displayed on every page that is assigned to the type of Page Template you choose
   • If you select "Header," "Footer," or "Morefoot," by default the Reader section will be displayed on every page regardless of the Page Template
3. Drag the "Reader" section from the "Available/Disabled Sections" over to the "Active Sections"
4. The Section Order will save automatically

You will now see an empty Reader section on every page that it is active on. If you don't want the Reader section to be displayed on all of those pages, you must configure your pages to show/hide it

Hide Reader on individual pages

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Pages" panel, then "All Pages"
2. Click to edit the page that you wish to hide the Reader section
3. On the "Meta Panel," click the "Page Setup" tab
4. Under "Individual Page Section Control," click "Hide Reader"
5. Click "Save Meta Settings"

Because the Reader section is displayed by default when you enable it, you will need to use this method for every page that you do not want the Reader section displayed.

Show Reader on individual pages

You can also hide the Reader section by default, and choose the pages you want to show it on.

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Templates"
2. Make sure you have the correct Template Area selected for the type of pages you want to hide
3. Under "Active Sections" click "Reader Options"
4. Click "Hide This By Default"
5. The Section Options will save automatically

Now the Reader section will be hidden by default until you select to show it on the individual page.

1. Select the "Pages" panel, then "All Pages"
2. Click to edit the page that you wish to show the Reader section
3. On the "Meta Panel," click the "Page Setup" tab
4. Under "Individual Page Section Control," click "Show Reader"
5. Click "Save Meta Settings"

Now that you've configured which pages will show the Reader section, it's time to add some Reader Posts.

Add Reader Post

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Readers" panel, then "Add New Reader"
2. Enter a Title for your Reader post
   • This will be displayed on the left side of the Reader section. If you were using this section as a FAQs page, this would be where the "question" goes
3. Enter your text
   • This will be displayed on the right side of the Reader section. If you were using this section as a FAQs page, this would be where the "answer" goes
4. Click "Publish"

Reader Sets

A Reader Set is what controls which Reader posts are displayed on individual pages

Create Reader Set

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Readers" panel, then "Reader Sets"
2. Type a Name for the Reader Set
   • This name is how it will appear on your site
3. Type a Slug for the Feature Set
   • The “Slug” is the URL-friendly version of the Feature Set Name. It is usually all lowercase and contains only letters, numbers, and hyphens
4. Click "Add New Category."

Assign Reader posts to a Reader Set

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Readers" panel, then "Readers"
2. Click to edit the Readers post that you want to assign
   • You can also select multiple Reader posts by checking the box next to the Title and under "Bulk Action," select "Edit," then click "Apply"
3. Check the box next to the Reader Set that you want to assign the Reader post to.
4. Click "Update"

• You can assign a Reader post to more than one Reader Set
• You can also assign a Reader post to a Reader Set while you are creating the Reader post

Reader Meta

After you have created your Reader posts and assigned them to a Reader Set, you will need to configure the Reader Meta Data on every page that you want to display the Reader Section.

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Pages" panel, then "All Pages"
2. Click to edit the Page that you want to configure the Reader section
3. On the MetaPanel, click "Reader"
   1. Reader Title
      • Shown in first line
   2. Reader Footer Text
      • Shown in the bottom of the Reader
   3. Default Tab Title
      • The text header shown on the default tab (what you will see if no Reader posts are selected)
   4. Default Tab Text
      • The text/html shown on the default tab for the reader (what you will see if no Reader posts are selected)
   5. Select Reader Set To Show
      • Click the drop down to select a Reader Set
      • If you do not assign a Reader Set, the Reader section will display all of your Reader posts
   6. Reader Colors
      • Enter the colors to use in the reader. If blank, the background colors will be used
4. Click "Save Meta Settings"

Feature Sort Order

By default, the Reader section will display the Reader posts chronologically, with the newest Reader post displayed first. To change the order of the Reader posts, or any custom post type for that matter (Reader posts, Banners, Boxes, or Features), you must install the Post Types Order plugin. It will allow you drag and drop control over the order.

Download, install, & activate the Post Types Order plugin

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Readers" panel, then "Re-Order"
2. Click and drag to rearrange the order of the Reader posts
3. Click "Update"

Post Types Order Setup

• When you first install & activate the Post Types Order Plugin, you will see a message that the plugin must be configured.
  1. Select the "Settings" panel, then "Post Types Order"
  2. Choose the General settings you desire. If you are unsure what these setting mean, leave them alone
  3. Click "Save Settings"
