Hopefully you already know how to create WordPress menus. If not, please refer to this Wordpress 3.0 Menus tutorial. The scope of this document is to teach you where your WordPress menus will appear inside of PageLines.

You can create & assign any custom menu to one of these locations. For this tutorial, we have created four custom menus and gave each of them the same name as the location that they are assigned to.

We also created three pages for each of the four menu locations and named & assigned each page after its respective location. This way you can see that the page name correlates to the menu location.

Menu Locations

PageLines supports four different Theme Locations:

  • Page Navigation in Footer Columns
    • Appears in the "Footer Columns Sidebar" section. This section is turned off by default, however it can be activated in both the Footer & Morefoot section template areas. It displays your menus in a column.
  • Primary Website Navigation
    • As the title suggests, this is the primary navigation for your website. This is the default location of all of your pages if you haven't created any custom menus yet. By default it is located just under the Branding section.
  • Simple Nav Section
    • This section is turned on by default and is located in Footer template area. It displays your menus side by side.
  • BrandNav Section Navigation
    • This section is turned off by default and is located in the Header template area. Use this section in place of the Branding section, and the menus will appear on the top right of your website.

After you assign your custom menus to their Theme Locations, by default you will only be able to see "Primary Website Navigation" & "Simple Nav Section" on your website. This is because the other two sections, "BrandNav Section Navigation" & "Page Navigation in Footer Columns" are disabled by default. Let's enable these two sections so you can see where they will show up on your page as well as how they will display your menus.

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

  1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Templates"
  2. Select the "Header" Template Area
  3. Remove "Branding" from the Active Sections & replace it with "BrandNav"
  4. Select the "Footer" Template Area
    • You could also choose "Morefoot" if you want
  5. Drag the "Footer Columns Sidebar" section from the "Available/Disabled Sections" over to the "Active Sections"
  6. The Section Order will save automatically
