[edit] Install BuddyPress on your PageLines site

Getting BuddyPress to run on a PageLines site isn't difficult, however there are a few steps you have to follow.

[edit] Install & Activate the Base Child Theme

In order to use BuddyPress with PageLines, you will need to install the BuddyPress Template Pack. This places a bunch of template files inside your theme. You can still install the template files inside the PageLines theme itself, however those files will be removed whenever you update PageLines. This is why we recommend that you install & activate the Base Theme. You can install the required template files in the Base Theme & won't have to worry about those files being overwritten when you update.

Click on How to Use the Base Theme for instructions on installation.

[edit] Install, Activate, & Setup BuddyPress

After you install & activate the BuddyPress plugin, you will need to run the BuddyPress Installation Wizard.

When you get to Step 4 (Choose theme to use for your BP install):

  1. Click "Install BuddyPress Template Pack"
  2. Click "Install Now"
  3. Click "Finish"
  4. You will now have the option to "Manually Update the Current Theme." Click "Choose This Option"
  5. Click "Finish & Activate"

Now you must configure the BuddyPress Template Pack: Go to the "Appearance" panel => "BP Compatibility"

  1. Click "Move Template Files"
  2. If the template files don't move automatically, follow the instructions on moving them manually. Otherwise, click "Continue to Step Three"
  3. Ignore Step Three; (tweaking your layout is accomplished by the BuddyPress for PageLines plugin.) Click "Finish" then "Save Settings"
    • Do not disable BP Template Pack CSS or JS/AJAX

Note: If you decide to install the BuddyPress Template Pack files inside the regular PageLines Theme instead of the Base Theme, these steps 1-3 will need to be repeated every time you update PageLines.

[edit] Activate the BuddyPress for PageLines Plugin

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

  1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Store"
  2. Select the "Plugins" tab, then "Add Plugins"
  3. Select the "Top Free" tab
  4. Locate the "BuddyPress for PageLines" plugin and click "Install"
  5. Select the "Added" tab, where you will now find the newly installed plugin
  6. Click "Activate"

That's it! BuddyPress will now be compatible with the PageLines Framework.

Further customization of your BuddyPress site should be accomplished using CSS. We recommend you take a look at How to Add Customization for more information.
